2026 Region IV Conference

The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University is pleased to announce a call for works for the 2026 Region IV Conference of the Society of Composers, Inc.

The conference will be held on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, from March 20-21, 2026.

The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2025.

The notification date is November 15, 2025.

All parts should be submitted by December 1, 2025.

Selected composers must be current SCI members.

Preference will be given to members within Region IV  (AL, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN)

Student submissions are welcomed and encouraged. Submissions of works for which the composer can provide performers are welcomed and encouraged. Submissions of works from composers of underrepresented groups are highly encouraged and welcomed.

Composers may submit up to 2 works (submit each work using a separate form). Works that are no more than 15 minutes in duration will have the best chance of being programmed. All scores (PDFs) and recordings (mp3, MIDI is acceptable if no live recording is available) should be submitted online only via this GOOGLE FORM LINK

Submitted works can fit into any of these categories:

  1. Art Song – lyric soprano (A3-C6) and piano
  2. Percussion Ensemble (8 players max, no more than 2 five octave marimbas, no four octave vibes)
  3. Clarinet Choir (2-8 parts max, auxiliary instruments available)
  4. Trumpet Ensemble (8 parts max)
  5. Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble (8 parts max)
  6. Flute Quartet
  7. Double Bass Quartet
  8. Blazing Bassoons (bassoon ensemble, 8 parts max, contra available)
  9. Saxophone Ensemble (8 parts max, auxiliary instruments available)
  10. Faculty/Graduate Student Mixed Chamber Ensembles (1-5 players without electronics)
    1. Clarinet
    2. Alto Saxophone
    3. Bassoon
    4. Horn
    5. Trombone
    6. Tuba
    7. Percussion
    8. Lyric Soprano (A3-C6)
    9. Double Bass
  11. Performers provided by the composer or composer performed works
  12. Dolby Atmos Listening Room Installation (9.1.6 surround Dolby Atmos configuration). Please submit stereo files for review. Final submission should be in Dolby Atmos format.
  13. Tui St George Tucker Special Session. Papers, panels, performances, or compositions related to Tui St George Tucker. Submit a < 200-word proposal on how the submission relates to Tui St George Tucker.
  14. Call for Papers (20 minutes) – Any paper topic related to composition or new music. Submit a < 200-word abstract.

Composers selected for this conference are required to remit a registration fee and agree to attend the festival. Regrettably, SCI is not able to offer travel stipends or honoraria to conference participants.
