In addition to SHSU’s hosting of the SCI Region VI conference, the university will also be sponsoring a Percussion Ensemble Composition Competition.
The Society of Composers, Inc., Region VI Conference will be held April 16-19, 2008, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX (one hour north of Houston). This year’s conference will also serve as Sam Houston State University’s 46th Contemporary Music Festival and will feature guest composer David Dzubay.
Scores will be accepted from all SCI composers, with preference for scores by composers affiliated with Region VI. All composers selected for performance during the conference must attend the conference and have their membership in good standing.
Submissions from student composers are encouraged. Submissions from composers who can supply their own performers are strongly encouraged. Electronic/Electroacoustic and multimedia works are also strongly encouraged. Video playback is available also (see below for list of available formats). We also welcome works in which the composer/performer provides his own portable equipment (ADAT, ProTools, Logic, Mac/PC, etc.) that we may not have available.
Submitted works may be up to 20 minutes in duration, with preference given to works under 15 minutes. All performances will be recorded. Composers will receive a recording of their works during or after the conference.
