Open to: SCI composer members. Preference will be given to scores submitted by composers affiliated with Region V.

2009 SCI Region V Conference

The Society of Composers, Inc., Region V Conference will be held October 8-10, 2009 at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Scores will be accepted from all composers. Selected composers must join the Society of Composers, Inc. before their work will be performed (see www.societyofcomposers.org). Composers from Region V will receive preference in score selection. Composers whose works are selected for performance during the conference must be members in good standing and must also attend the conference. Submissions from student composers are strongly encouraged and welcomed. Submissions from composers who can supply their own performers are welcomed.
Electronic/Electro-acoustic and multimedia works are welcomed. We have two channel play-back, video screen and projector available. Composer must supply other equipment.
Submitted works may be of any duration, but works under 15 minutes will be given higher preference. Composers may choose to purchase a recording of any performance.

Composers are invited and encouraged to submit scores for solo performers with or without accompaniment for the following instruments and voice types:

Call for Submissions: Academic Writings
Composers, Theorists, Musicologists, and Students
SCI members are invited to submit proposals for academic presentations on any aspect of music since 1900. Topics may include, but are not limited to music theory, analysis, history, ethnomusicology, performance, and composition. Abstracts 250 words (maximum) should be submitted via e-mail for consideration, and attached as a Word document (.doc or .docx format only, please). Please identify in the e-mail the author, institutional affiliation, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and presentation necessities (LCD Display, CD Player, etc.). Please submit up to five compositions for consideration. For each work, submit a score, separate CD recording, program notes, and a contact sheet with the composers name, address, telephone number, email address, a list of works submitted with durations, and a brief bio. Electronic Music – for the selection process, please submit a DVD or CD. For multimedia works, please submit DVD format for consideration. If you wish your materials returned to you, please include an SASE. Submissions that do not contain an SASE will become permanent additions to the Clarke College Music Library. Some materials will be shipped to performers throughout the region, so return of materials cannot be guaranteed.
Selections will be made by the ensemble directors and performers, in coordination with the conference hosts. Playability and available rehearsal time will be a factor in all selection decisions. Composers will be notified by September 5, 2009.
Selected composers must provide all required performance materials. Clarke College, and/or SCI will not pay rental costs or other fees relating to performance materials.
