The Society of Composers, Inc., Region III Conference will be held March 31-April 1, 2012 at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
Scores will be accepted from all composers. Selected composers must join the Society of Composers, Inc. before their work is performed (see www.societyofcomposers.org). Composers from Region III will receive preference in score selection. Selected composers must be SCI members in good standing and attend the conference. Submissions from student composers are strongly encouraged. Submissions from composers who can supply their own performers are welcomed.
Electronic/Electro-acoustic and multimedia works: Two channel playback (microphones, monitors, etc.) and video projection is available. Composers may be required to supply other equipment.
Submitted works may be of any duration, but works under 12 minutes will be given higher preference. Recordings of individual works will be available for composers after a processing period of a few weeks.
Solo/Chamber Works
Composers are invited to submit scores for solo performers with or without accompaniment for all orchestral instruments and voice types.

Please submit up to three compositions for consideration. Submit a score, separate CD recording (MIDI playback acceptable), program notes, and a contact sheet with the composers name, address, telephone number, email address, a list of works submitted with durations, specifics regarding the availability of one’s own performers, and a brief biography. Electronic Music – for the selection process, please submit a DVD or CD. For multimedia works, please submit a DVD. If you wish your materials returned, please include an SASE.
Selections will be made in consultation with ensemble directors and performers. Selected composers will be notified by November 21, 2011. Composers must provide all required performance materials. Christopher Newport University, and/or SCI will not pay rental costs or other fees relating to performance materials.
Call for Submissions: Academics Writings
Composers, Theorists, Musicologists, and Students
SCI members are invited to submit proposals for academic presentations on any aspect of music since 1900. Topics may include, but are not limited to music theory, analysis, history, ethnomusicology, performance, and composition. Abstracts 300 words (maximum) should be submitted via email for consideration, and attached as a Word document (.doc or .docx format only, please). Please identify in the e-mail the author, institutional affiliation, mailing address, phone number, email address, and presentation necessities (projector, CD Player, the time required for presenting, etc.). Please submit abstracts to: Dr. Christopher Cook (christopher.cook@cnu.edu). Selected presenters will be notified by November 21, 2011.
