2015 SCI Region VI Conference

Call for Scores and Presentations

Submission deadline: Friday, September 26, 2014
Notification deadline: Friday, October 31, 2014
Conference fees: $60 SCI Members; $30 SCI Student Members.(Conference fee waived for guest performers.)


Conference Registration (with $2 service fee)



During the conference every attempt will be made to coordinate open rehearsals with the guest composers. The conference will emphasize composer coaching and interaction with the faculty and students performers.

Score Submission Guidelines

Selected composers must be current SCI members. Preference will be given to members within Region VI. Student submissions are welcome.

Submission of works for which the performers will be provided is encouraged.

Composers may submit up to three hard-copy bound scores. No electronic submissions. Preference will be given to works under 10 minutes. Selected composers must provide all performance materials. Recordings preferred; only a recording is necessary for electronic music submissions. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you would like the submission materials returned.

Available Instruments (faculty/regional guests)

Flute/Piccolo, Oboe/English Horn, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Saxophone(s), Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Violin, Cello, Double/Electric Bass, Accordion, Percussion, Piano (4), Organ, Voice (soprano, baritone)

Ensembles

  1. Chamber Winds through Wind Ensemble (last concert, Sunday, March 8, 3:00 p.m.)
    Selected composers must be able to fully participate in rehearsals on Friday and Saturday in final preparation for the Sunday afternoon concert. Composers will also form a panel discussion about composing, preparing, and performing new wind literature in colleges and universities before a large student audience on Friday at noon.
  2. Chamber Chorale (24) and Concert Choir (50+)
  3. NuFusion Ensemble (jazz/big band)
  4. British-style Brass Band and Brass Choir
  5. Faculty Brass Quartet/Quintet
  6. Faculty Wind Quartet/Quintet

Student Chamber Ensembles

  1. Flute Choir (Piccolos, Flutes, 2 Alto, 2 Bass)
  2. Clarinet Quartet
  3. Saxophone Quartet
  4. Woodwind Quintet
  5. Tuba/Euphonium Quartet or Ensemble
  6. Trombone Quartet or Ensemble
  7. Percussion Ensemble (6-8)

Electronics

Limited to stereo playback. Composers are welcome to supply additional equipment.

Special Performer Requests

  1. Violin: solo, violin and cello, chamber, live/fixed-electronics
  2. 2 Pianos or 4-Hand Piano
  3. Soprano and Clarinet; Soprano, Clarinet and Piano
  4. Trombone or Euphonium: solo, chamber, live/fixed-electronics
  5. Accordion: solo, chamber, live/fixed-electronics

Paper or Presentation Proposals

Members are strongly encouraged to submit proposals for papers or presentations on any aspect of composition. Please submit an abstract with a maximum of 300 words (up to two pages of supporting materials may also be included). Please identify any audio or visual equipment needed. Topics of interest expressed by faculty and students:

Please include the following information with your submission: name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, title of works with date of composition, duration, and instrumentation. Biographies, liner notes, texts, and abstracts will be requested soon after the notification deadline.
