The SCI Newsletter is a bi-monthly publication which serves the membership of the Society of Composers, Inc. by publishing materials pertaining to the field of composition and contemporary music culture including: history, pedagogy, philosophy, opinion, current events, interdisciplinary connections, etc. Specifically, the types of articles published are blog or academic style articles, interviews, album reviews, concert/conference reviews, etc. The Newsletter is particularly interested in publishing articles relating to our Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Contemporary Music Culture series and our New Horizons: SCI Student Members series. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for reproduction from the publishers of all musical examples used. The views and opinions expressed in articles published by the SCI Newsletter are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the Society of Composers, Inc. Feel free to contact the Editor with any questions, concerns, or ideas.

Publication Information

Submission Information

  • Authors must be current SCI members in good standing (student members are also encouraged to contribute)
  • Documents should be submitted in Microsoft Word file format by email
  • Articles should be between 500-2500 words
  • Standard Arial or Times New Roman size 12 fonts should be used
  • Use only one space after periods and between sentences
  • Include a hi-resolution head-shot of the author to accompany articles (include name of photographer)
  • Include a 200 word (or less) biography of the author
  • Extra photographs and musical examples are encouraged and should be hi-resolution with sources properly credited
  • Deadline: Issues are published bimonthly on the following dates:
